How to Integrate Aramex Shipping with Shopify

Aramex is the courier we reach for when orders leave Egypt or cross the Gulf. Here is how we connect it to Shopify, price the zones honestly, and keep cross-border delivery from surprising the customer at the door.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Aramex earns its place on regional and international shipping — the GCC and cross-border routes a domestic courier like Bosta does not cover. Many of the stores we build run both: Bosta for Egypt, Aramex for everything beyond it. The work that matters is not the connection; it is zone rates that reflect real cost, and being honest about customs and duties on cross-border orders, because an unexpected charge at delivery is where the chargeback and the one-star review come from. Set the free-shipping threshold from your margin with the free-shipping threshold calculator, and see the full stack in our Egypt & Saudi payment methods guide for the payment side.

Before you start

  • An Aramex business account
  • A Shopify store
  • Your real cost-per-shipment by destination
  • A customs/duties policy for cross-border orders

Step by step

The same sequence we follow on client stores. Do them in order — several of the later steps depend on decisions made in the earlier ones.

  1. Connect Aramex to Shopify

Install an Aramex integration and authenticate with your business account. Push a single test shipment through before you switch fulfilment over, and confirm orders and addresses sync cleanly.

  2. Build zones that match real cost

Aramex pricing varies sharply by destination — within Egypt, across the GCC, and internationally are three different cost worlds. Build Shopify shipping zones that mirror that, rather than a single flat rate that overcharges your nearest market and subsidises your farthest.

  3. Decide domestic vs regional split

If you also use a local courier, decide the rule: local courier for domestic, Aramex for cross-border and international. Keeping each courier to what it is best at is cheaper than forcing one to do both.

  4. Be explicit about customs and duties

On cross-border orders, state clearly whether the price includes duties (DDP) or the customer pays on delivery (DDU). A surprise customs charge at the door is a top cause of refused parcels and chargebacks — decide the model and say it on the product and checkout pages.

  5. Set the free-shipping threshold from margin

International shipping is expensive; a threshold guessed on instinct quietly gives away margin. Set it just above your average order value and check it clears the delivered cost — the free-shipping threshold calculator is built for exactly this.

  6. Automate labels and push tracking back

Create the Aramex shipment automatically on fulfilment so nobody re-types addresses, and push the tracking number into Shopify so it appears in the confirmation email and order status. Send it over WhatsApp too — see the WhatsApp integration guide.

  7. Publish honest delivery windows and reconcile COD

State delivery times per zone that Aramex genuinely achieves, including your fulfilment days. If you take cash on delivery through Aramex, agree how remittance maps to Shopify order IDs and reconcile weekly, not monthly.

What we do differently

The three things that separate a working setup from a default one — drawn from the stores we ship, not from the documentation.

Zones by real cost, not a flat rate

Egypt, the GCC and international are three cost worlds — one rate is wrong in all of them.

Decide DDP vs DDU up front

A surprise duty at the door refuses parcels and triggers chargebacks. State it before checkout.

Right courier for the route

Local courier domestic, Aramex cross-border — do not force one to do both.

Would rather we just did it?

We set this up on every store we build, and we do it as standalone work too. Start with a free audit — we will tell you what is worth changing before you spend anything.

Frequently Asked
Questions

What clients ask us about this integration before we set it up.

Should I use Aramex or a local courier like Bosta?

Use both for what each does best: a local courier such as Bosta for domestic Egypt delivery, and Aramex for regional GCC and international shipping. Many of the stores we build run exactly that split.

How do I handle customs and duties with Aramex?

Decide whether you ship duties-paid (DDP, price includes duties) or duties-unpaid (DDU, the customer pays on delivery), then state it clearly on the product and checkout pages. An unexpected charge at the door is a top cause of refused cross-border parcels.

Can Aramex do cash on delivery?

Aramex supports cash on delivery on many routes. If you use it, set it up as its own method, track the return-to-origin rate, and reconcile the remittance against Shopify orders weekly.
