How to Integrate Bosta Shipping with Shopify

Shipping is where a good Shopify store quietly loses money. Here is how we connect Bosta, set rates that reflect what delivery actually costs, and keep COD reconciliation from becoming a monthly spreadsheet crisis.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Bosta is the courier on most of the Egyptian stores we build, and the integration is straightforward. What is not straightforward is everything around it: rate tables that quietly undercharge for remote governorates, a free-shipping threshold set on instinct rather than on margin, and cash-on-delivery cash that arrives days after the order and never quite reconciles. Get those three right and shipping stops being a leak. Our free-shipping threshold calculator exists specifically to set that threshold from your real numbers.

Before you start

  • A Bosta business account
  • A Shopify store
  • Your real cost-per-shipment by zone
  • Your average order value and margin

Step by step

The same sequence we follow on client stores. Do them in order — several of the later steps depend on decisions made in the earlier ones.

  1. Connect Bosta to Shopify

Install the Bosta integration and authenticate with your business account. Confirm orders flow through by pushing a single test order before you switch fulfilment over wholesale.

  2. Map your zones to real costs

Build Shopify shipping zones that match how Bosta actually prices — Cairo and Giza will not cost the same as Upper Egypt or the North Coast. A single flat national rate either overcharges your densest market or subsidises your most expensive one.

  3. Set the free-shipping threshold from your margin

Set it just above your current average order value, and check it clears the shipping cost against your gross margin. Guessing this number is one of the most expensive habits in regional e-commerce — run it through the free-shipping threshold calculator instead.

  4. Configure cash on delivery and its fee

If you offer COD, decide whether the customer or the store absorbs the handling fee, and set the minimum order value. Then track the return-to-origin rate from day one so you know what COD really costs you.

  5. Automate fulfilment and label creation

Set orders to create a Bosta shipment automatically on fulfilment so your team is not re-typing addresses. Manual re-entry is where the wrong-address failures come from.

  6. Put tracking where customers will look

Push the tracking number back into Shopify so it appears in the shipping-confirmation email and the order status page. Then send it over WhatsApp too — see the WhatsApp integration guide — because that is where regional customers will actually check.

  7. Publish honest delivery times

State a delivery window on the product page and in the cart that matches what Bosta genuinely achieves for that zone, including the days it takes you to fulfil. An optimistic promise generates more support tickets than a slower honest one.

  8. Reconcile COD weekly, not monthly

Agree how Bosta's COD remittance maps to Shopify order IDs and check it weekly. Monthly reconciliation on a growing store is how discrepancies become undiscoverable.

What we do differently

The three things that separate a working setup from a default one — drawn from the stores we ship, not from the documentation.

Zone rates, not a flat rate

One national rate always means you are wrong in both directions at once.

Threshold from margin, not instinct

A free-shipping threshold below your true delivered cost is a discount you did not intend to give.

Track return-to-origin from day one

You cannot price COD without knowing its failure rate.

Would rather we just did it?

We set this up on every store we build, and we do it as standalone work too. Start with a free audit — we will tell you what is worth changing before you spend anything.

Frequently Asked
Questions

What clients ask us about this integration before we set it up.

Bosta or Aramex?

We deploy both, and the honest answer is that it depends on your zones, volume, and negotiated rates — not on a general ranking. Many stores use one as primary and the other for coverage gaps.

Should shipping be free?

Free above a threshold, almost always. Free on everything is a margin decision, not a marketing one — model it in the free-shipping threshold calculator before you commit.

Can you set the rate tables up for us?

Yes. Shipping and payments configuration is part of every regional store we build, and it is included in the scope on our services page.
